Forest of Lines

Between 2023-2024 Rachel began exploring of the colour, shapes, texture, and movement of the natural environment of Nuenonne (Southern Central Tasmania). It is an installation comprising of sculptures that are both suspended and floor based, and photography. The sculptural elements of this installation are made from wool yarn, wax, sticks and discarded fabric.

Nuenonne is a landscape exploding with endemic flora that in parts are sculpted by Antarctic winds and storms, in others, dampened by rain and snow producing cold climate rain forests. It can be a harsh environment, but it is also one of breath-taking beauty, worthy of celebration. Sadly, the continuation of old growth logging constantly threatens this delicate ecosystem.
